Upminster 2nd XI Versus Wanstead 2nd XI - THEFT INCIDENT
Posted by Wanstead
There was an incident during our game against Upminster 2's on Saturday that I would like you to make known to all other clubs. When we arrived at the ground there was a chap talking to the Upminster Captain saying that he has moved to the area from Croydon, previously played for Old Whitgiftian CC, and wanted to join Upminster. During our innings he sat with us and engaged in general cricket chat and seemed like a nice bloke.

When it came to us going out to field we wanted to lock our valuables in our changing room but the key, which they always leave in the door, was missing so instead we asked the bar staff to keep our valuables bag behind the bar for us.
Whilst we were fielding this 'new guy' was in the club house and was heard to be on his phone saying things like 'we've got 3 wickets now' and 'Dave's got another wicket, looks like we're going to win' stuff like that to give the impression he was with us. He then went up to the bar and said 'can I have the away team valuables as my son needs his mobile phone'. The barman thought nothing of it and handed it over and the guy went outside, went through everyones wallets taking £120 cash, 5 or 6 phones, a watch and a Sat Nav. He then went and handed the bag back to the barman.

We watched the whole thing back on Upminster's CCTV and, while you could not see who the bag was given to, the barman described this guy to a tee. It was also clear from the footage that the barman played no part at all in the theft.

The guy that robbed us was late 30's, white, stocky build, and about 6ft tall.

Absolutely no fault lays with Upminster CC and they were really helpful in trying to help get to the bottom of what happened. We think that this guy probably took the key out of the door earlier in the day. He was clearly a pro and was actually at the ground for the best part of 5 hours before doing this!

Please could you warn all other clubs in the league and circulate this guys description.

TO ALL SHEPHERD NEAME CLUBS

There are likely to be many cancellations this weekend due to the awful weather.
Please note that if your main ground is not available due to inclement weather you are not allowed to cancel a lower XI home match to allow your higher XI to play on their pitch. This principle applies throughout your XIs.
Unlike the League Cup last week you are not allowed to switch grounds with your opponents to use their ground as this would also involve their scheduled home match being cancelled.
Please notify your opponents and umpires as soon as possible in the event of cancellations and remember that in the case of first XI matches it is still necessary for the home team to phone in to advise of the cancellation.
If you have any queries please email or phone Cliff Greenhill.

PLAY-CRICKET SITE
ALL CLUBS have adopted the use of Play-Cricket Automated System from the 2009 season to enter: Results, Score Cards etc., of matches and therefore keep the League Tables etc., up to date. All Clubs should organise their Administrators to enter all playing members information required in advance of the season, this will save a rush to get sorted out. The Administrators can practice using the site by entering all their club members details. Again this will stop a mad last minute rush and cause less hassle during the season. It is most important that all League Playing Members are entered on the site.
