Gentlemen,

2012 Fixtures

It has proved abnormally troublesome since the introduction of leagues with an excess of 10 teams, and nigh on impossible, to match all sides on a home and away basis, thus resulting in an imbalance of games.  Hosting the Olympic Games within the area has resulted in further chaos, together with all X1 requesting deferments and non availability of grounds has proved “a bridge to far”

I list below the requests that we were unable to achieve, and further the double headers that have proved unavoidable.

Hainault 5th & 6th X1 on the 16th June
Stanford Le Hope 3rd & 4th X1 on the 17th July, although their 5th are away.
Pegasus 3rd & 4th X1 on the 28th July
Ilford 3rd & 4th on the 25th August
Southend on Sea 3rd & 4th X1 on the 1st September
Orsett 3rd & 4th X1 on the 1st September, although their 5th are away.

You may note that also several games are only 1 or 2 weeks apart and these at the start or the end of the season.

Should any Clubs have extra ground availability in the above weeks, please contact relevant Club.

Many thanks,

Michael E Jones.

Message from the League Secretary

JEFF RODRIQUES COMPETITION
This competition was discussed at our recent committee meeting as a number of clubs were unhappy with the new format used in 2011.
The County have reduced the Under 16 Matchplay competition to smaller groups with 4 or 5 games instead of 9.
This should increase the availability of young players for other Sunday cricket.
We have decided to revert to the 40:40 format as for the league cup but with the following requirements.
At least 5 players must be Under 16
At least 5 players must be Over 40
The other player must be either Under 16 or Over 40
Batsmen must retire at a personal score of 30 (they can return once all players have batted)
This is to stop an adult player dominating the match
Bowlers may bowl a maximum of 8 overs
Please advise me by email if you wish to enter this competition (or not) as soon as possible and by the end of January at the latest.

UNDER 21 SUNDAY LEAGUE

A successful Under 21 League is being run south of the river.

We would hope to set up something similar in 2013

If clubs wish to take part in a small SNEL version based on the League Cup 40:40 rules this summer please advise me by email before the end of January

CLUB CONTACTS

Please complete up to date details of club contacts on the SNEL Website. This should include details of your bar manager so that Shepherd Neame can contact them directly.

PLAY CRICKET
Please take advantage of the winter break to update details of your player base on Play-Cricket. Please delete players no longer with your club and ensure addresses and dates of birth are correct. We have hundreds of players who seem to live at the clubhouse. A few players are less than ten years old and many were apparently born in 1900.

HANDBOOK DETAILS
Please respond to Andy Jenner as soon as possible remember there in a heavy fine for non-submission. As at last week's meeting less than half the clubs had responded.

20:20
Clubs must arrange all group 20:20 matches by the end of January and notify George Salmon so these can be entered on the website.

Thanks from:- Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research Money raised at the Annual League Presentation Dinner

PLEASE NOTE
I have adjusted and changed all the Cat 3 Exempt registered players who have been in the UK for four year or more from the start of the season to Cat 1 as per the new regulations.
It is of the utmost importance that clubs check players to confirm that they are in the correct Category as it is Clubs responsibility to ensure that all players are in the correct Category.
Some of the dates shown as entry into the UK where somewhat strange and I have left them to be corrected.
If you have any queries or wish to changed dates but are unable to do so please email me with any changes that you may require.
IT IS YOUR CLUB'S RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT ALL PLAYERS ARE REGISTERED CORRECTLY PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SEASON.

SN ESSEX PREMIER CRICKET LEAGUE

Suggestion to change the format for the 2012 Season as follows:

1)      All games to be played under the rules of the longer format with the following amendments: a) Number of overs reduced to 110

                                  b) Start at 12.00 noon
                                  c) Overs split 58/52
                                  d) One break of 40 minutes between the innings for “High Tea”.
                                  e) One drinks (+comfort) break during each innings of 5 minutes at the end of 32 overs in each innings.
                                  f) Over rate of 17 per hour to be strictly enforced with points deductions
                                  g) Bonus points to be adjusted pro rata.

            ADVANTAGES
The longer game produces better cricket and gives both batsmen and bowlers in particular more opportunities to develop. The 110 overs match with one break removes the need for providing lunch and also cuts down the time required to play the match.

If the change above is rejected and the current dual format is favoured by a majority of Clubs the following change is suggested:

           In the 50 over game
           A minimum of 5 bowlers must bowl but;
2 bowlers can bowl up to a maximum of 15 overs
2 bowlers must bowl a minimum of 5 overs.

This change will give the captain more options and encourage more imaginative thinking.

This also addresses the fact that a good bowler is restricted in his performance but a good batsman can bat on to get a hundred. As it stands a bowler can bowl no more than 90 overs for half the season.
